Brrrr.....

Thanks to the major weather lows across the country. Our lowest temp was -17 with a windchill of -50. We have been dealing with frozen
Pipes for almost a week. .... Okay, so it wasn't a week and it only affected half the bathrooms in our home and the washer and dryer.

It has made life pretty stressful. Our biggest fears were of course busted pipes. We got lucky and had none.

On the second day of frozen pipes we also had the pleasure of dealing with a power outage. Fortunately it only lasted 2.5 hours. Someone ran into a transformer. I'm told it was Megatron.

We are a very fortunate family. During the power outage we had several offers from families saying. Come stay with us.
We ended up going to the Porters, one of the families that our family loves dearly, to wait it out. They were willing to take us in and feed us, for however long was nessary. We even made a plan in case we needed to come back in the middle of the night. Thank you Porters for your hospitality.

My kids and the Porter kids are very comfortable around each other. So comfortable they even eat off each others plates. Not to mention the other bodily functions that happen so easily around each other.

Third day, of the frozen pipes, john stayed home. He also bought a $200 space heater for the garage. Fortunately the thing ran on fuel and not electricity. Because of it our garage was 60* most the day. The pipes however remained frozen.

It was driving john nuts. The only possible path we could figure out for the pipes went through the garage. Unless they took them through the attic. We did manage to get a drizzle out of the pipes by the end of the night.

Thursday morning we finally had running cold water and the ability to flush toliets in all the bathrooms. Yeah! By the end of the middle of the day the rest of the water nearly gave me a heart attack as it all started spewing from the faussets. Yes! Hot water! On the downside it meant laundry needed to be done. On the upside my teenage boy, finally was able to shower again.

  1. That's quite an adventure! I'd be sad to lose you from the ward, but I'm totally jealous about going back to Briargate.... :)
