Time to vent

Well, let's see where to start? I've been putting off writing about this but I guess I should. After all this is my journal and it's something major to write about. Okay, here goes. Saturday there was an EFY at our Stake building. My kids of course went. Apparently the talks at EFY are always better than normal talks or at least that's what JD had to say. Anyway, following EFY there was of course a dance.

It was at this point and time that my daughter decided she should hang up her coat, cause it was gonna get hot. First off you have to understand even at home she has rarely taken this coat off. She got this coat for christmas and loves it. Dance ends, she had a blast, the day was great. Until, she went to get her coat. It was gone. Not only was it gone but her phone that was in the pocket was gone. She and the Porters searched everywhere. Eventually other people were brought in on the search. They were there forever searching every nook and cranny at that building.

When she got home her eyes were bloodshot and her face red. Needless to say, she was devastated. Not only did she lose her coat but she (a teenage girl) lost her phone. Also something that is very rarely out of arms reach. I thought about spending her phone but, I didn't want to judge to harshly. We kept calling the phone and sending texts to it. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) my daughter was listening to the leaders and turned off her phone while at EFY. None the less we kept sending texts and whatnot.

That night I woke from a nightmare where in someone had decided to use the Internet on her phone. Crap!!! I immediately went online and disabled Internet use on her phone. It never even dawned on me to do that cause my kids know if they use that feature on their phones they lose their phones. Unfortunately I was to late. They used the Internet from 12am -3am. Also unfortunately we have to pay per MB. We were hoping they had made some phone calls or texts, but they didn't call anything useful.

Right after sacrament John, Jordan and I took off to look for the coat one more time at the Lexington building. We also of course searched ours in case someone brought it and hung it up there. No luck

When Jeremy got home from Church he said he received a text from Jordan's phone. Saying that someone named Danny Ziegler found her phone in McDonald's and they were going to leave it there. He tried to text back to ask which McDonald's. Never got a reply.

We called every single McDonald's in the Colorado Springs and outlying area. No one had seen a phone.

The thing that seems to be the most frustrating is the attitudes all but a handful seem to have about this. They seem to think someone took it by accident or they were just joking around. The thing is. If it was an accident, they would not have racked up a bill on the Internet or left it at McDonald's or possible sent us on a McDonald's wild goose chase. IF they did it, it's not funny and it is a big deal. IF you add up the value up the phone , the Sim card in it, and the coat it's a class 2 misdemeanor (in Colorado). I have no idea how much the Internet bill is going to add up to but it isn't going to be cheap. Once I know that I can tell you if it in the end added up to be a Felony. It was halfway there with out the Internet use.

I guess I don't like the idea that we are just suppose to assuming someone was playing a joke and let it slide. As of right now, no one has made an effort to fix what they've done. Is it wrong that I would want to press charges? I'm sorry but if they made the choice to steal then they need to deal with their consequences.

  1. I don't think that is wrong at all. I hope that you all find the coat, phone and the person who took it. Have you reported it to the cops? If you file a report I think they let all pawn shops and such know to be on the look at. If there is anything I can help with please let me know.

  2. I agree with Holly. It should definitely get reported to the police. I think as Latter-day -Saints, we sometimes are so uncomfortable with crime that it seems easier to just overlook it this time- that just makes us bigger targets. It's sad but there are those people out there who actually calculate the risk and find us and our buildings, cars, belongings and even persons easy game.

  3. Another possibility, it may not have been anyone from our Church. While at a Youth Conference in Germany, in our building, there were 2 sets of keys stolen out of coat pockets, and they made off with one of the vehicles. These were not members, just people that ventured in off the streets when they saw there were people inside the building. It should be reported, and charges pressed, without you feeling guilty. You, after all, are not the one that stole her phone.

  4. I would be feeling the same way as you. The person who took the phone intentionally used it for their own purposes, this wasn't an accident and whomever did it should be held accounable for their actions if they are caught!

  5. I hate that someone would take advantage of people in a church and steal their things. There is a special place reserved for them in the next life. I do hope you find out who did this.
