21 years of pretending

Way over 21 years ago I was working as a nanny in Chicago and dating a guy that had recently left to go to BYU. So here I was nineteen going to my regularly scheduled single adults activity. That's when I saw the biggest geek in the world. Wish I had a picture of him. He looked a little like Jimmy Osmond at the time, that really wasn't the bad part. In fact at the time I actually thought Jimmy Osmond was kinda cute. I however couldn't get over what he was wearing. Can't really remember the shirt, I'm pretty positive it was a t-shirt plain. However on his lower half he had on some baggy gray sweats. Over them, tight red shorts. We aren't talking long shorts. We are talking the kind that end maybe an inch or two below the butt cheek. That plus he cool, quiet demnor just shooted GEEK!

We were practicing volleyball, the group of us, trying to decide what we were going to do. He was actually pretty good. The whole group of us were. Ultimately our group decided to play basketball. At the time I was actually pretty good at the game. Of course I had 6 brothers, basketball was a part of life. Somehow this guy ended up guarding me. He however was guarding me way, way to close. Between that and the look on his face, I was finding it very disturbing and couldn't get him to back off. So I... *deep breath* I punched him. It wasn't a playful, flirty punch. It was everything I had type of a punch. Him and his hard abs didn't seem to notice. He did however back off a tad.

Finally the night was coming to an end so I rushed off to get home so that I could talk to my boyfriend that would be calling soon. I'm told that's we this geek chased me out to the parking lot trying to invite me to stay and play pictionary with everyone. I din't see him and wouldn't have stayed anyway.

The single adult group I was in met at least twice a week a large part of us met more often to play games and just hang out. He kept showing up to these things. I actually started to talk to him and get to know him, nice guy. I however was in a relationship and not about to end it. The geek even started showing up at the house I worked at. So we would play pictionary and talk. Our game would often have breaks where we/ I would tend to or play with Justine. The girl in my care. We often played pictionary. this geek started asking me out. I would keep telling him I was already dating someone. He would force the issue saying we could go as just friends. Eventuall I would go with him, however I was usually wearing things that would not let him forget that I was dating someone else. He quickly became my best friend although I wasn't about to date him. I was in a relationship.

Word must have gotten back to my boyfriend that I was spending to much time with this guy. Cause I started getting calls at weird times, if my geek friend was there I would tell him and I'd tell him what I doing. It was when he started having other people call and check on me and when I'd get call in the middle of the night making sure I was alone, that's when I got fed up. I figured if he couldn't trust me what was the point. That and if he felt the need to spy on me I'd give him something to spy on. The relationship was over.

The next night one of my friends was getting baptized. This would be the first time I'd see "the geek " all dressed up. He was after all going to come, the person getting baptized was a part of the posse we always hung out with. The geek did not disappoint, he should just to the baptism looking the part. He had apparently forgotten that he had nicked himself several times while shaving. There were little pieces of toliet paper on his face. GEEK!!

That was the night of our first kiss. He claims I mauled him, pa shaw. Anyway, we didn't really let anyone know that we were more than friends, till thanksgiving. We were playing pictionary (or at least just drawing) when my Geek said, Let's tell everyone we are going to get married to see what they say. So we did, no one believed us. We went back to chatting and he suggested that we really get married and see what they say. So I said ok. So this marriage, it's all a big joke to see what people say. These kids in our house, just hired actors. The joke has just reached it's 21st year and still lives on.
