Things that make me laugh in my calling

Some people don't enjoy working in nursery, I am not one of those people. The kids are always surprising me. Most the time they just crack me up. Of course none of them are mine. Yesterday was not different.

During singing time, for the first time almost everyone of them was singing. One little girl, is always so very animated. Watching her sing is very entertaining. But the two that cracked me up the most during singing time today was Issac and Sam. Issac is new to nursery, but he was trying his best to do the actions to the songs. Anyway, the singing person was having them sing "If you're happy and you know it". He was really into the song and actions. Then she sang the part "stomp your feet". He looked down at his feet that barely dangled of the chair then back at her like she had lost her mind. It cracked me up, it all happened so fast that if you weren't watching you would have missed it.

Now for Sam, thanks to reading his mom's blog, I've learned that he really likes the song "twinkle, twinkle little star". I've even managed to get him to sing it, but not around the other kids. Armed with this information about how he likes the song I suggested we try that song during singing time. Sam usually just sits there and listens. Yesterday however when we started singing that song his face lit up and by the end of the song he was so far on the edge of his chair, that I'm surprised he didn't fall off. The whole thing was just so cute.

During our lesson yesterday one of the kids totally took me by surprise. I've never really heard this little boy, Ben, talk. Yesterday I held up a picture of a certain building, he was not paying attention he was playing or so I thought, and asked "Does anyone know what this is?" He replied very clearly "Temple". A very pleasant surprise. I think that was the first thing I've ever heard him say. It's also nice to know that even when you think that aren't paying attention, they are.

The final thing that really killed me to not laugh at was during snack prayer. Jacob, really wanted to say prayer by himself. Teva however, always sort of says prayer on her own. Anyway, she was really quiet then he began. Of course she right away started to pray when he did. This made Jacob glare at her and another little girl at the same time try to convince her to be quiet. The whole thing once I type it sounds mean but, it really wasn't. It was just one of those things that when you watched their expressions, it was really hard to not laugh.

These kids really light up my day. I really have fun playing with them and learning from them. Almost forgot, one mother shared with me something that her daughter, Mandy, said last week. I'm not sure I remember it correctly but, you'll get the gist. She was trying to convince her daughter to wear a white sweater to church with her dress and she told her mom that the nursery teachers don't allow the kids to wear white sweaters. The way her mom told it, awesome tidbit!

I really do love these kiddos.
